I’m not sure if I am looking forward more to National Poetry Month or the (presumably) nicer weather to come our way in the northern hemisphere in April.
April is an unpredictable month because of those snows turning to rains, but I will take it. It’s not that I mind a nice snowstorm, I’m just ready for a bit of warmer weather.
Samuel Johnson–he of 1755’s “A Dictionary of the English Language”– apparently said (amongst the many, many things he wrote and said):
April is a moment of joy for those who have survived the winter.
In the 1700s, winter was likely a somewhat more dangerous time of year for far more people than it is today. Nevertheless, it’s good to put it behind us for a while.
Check back to this site in the coming days for a bit of poetry to celebrate National Poetry Month.
Poetry is coming.
